Case Study

Ogunquit Wedding Welcome Party

Summary of Project

When a client came to PEAK Event Services/PEAK Structure Solutions looking to create an unforgettable welcome party on a unique oceanside property in Ogunquit, Maine, the team immediately recognized this project would require creativity, innovation, and collaboration. The property offered a breathtaking vantage point overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, but the natural terrain and limited yard space made it impossible to achieve the desired view without temporary infrastructure. The purpose of the project was clear: build a structure that not only supported the event but enhanced the guest experience by showcasing the incredible coastal backdrop.

Client Needs

The clients approached PEAK with an open mind and a collaborative spirit. Their only requests were that the build remain within budget and, above all, be safe for their guests. They trusted PEAK’s expertise and encouraged the team to think outside the box. This freedom allowed designers and operations team members to explore creative solutions and present options that pushed the boundaries of what is typically possible in a residential setting.

Challenges

This project presented several unique challenges that required careful planning and execution:

  • Terrain and space limitations: The event site had a narrow yard with limited access, making it difficult to bring in large equipment. The tent needed to sit atop an elevated floor, reaching up to 11 feet high, to create the optimal view.
  • Weather conditions: On the day of the event, wind gusts of up to 34 mph tested the stability of the structure. Safety and guest comfort became an even higher priority.
  • Logistical constraints: With limited load-in space, PEAK’s crew had to be resourceful, ensuring every piece of equipment was moved efficiently, often requiring additional manpower and creative solutions to transport materials to the site.

Solutions & Unique Attributes

The PEAK team approached these challenges with a blend of precision, technology and craftsmanship:

  • Drone mapping & site surveys: By using drone technology, the team was able to capture exact elevations and map the property in detail. This allowed PEAK Structure Solutions to design and build scaffolding flooring that would rise from 1 foot to 11 feet across a 33-foot footprint.
  • Collaboration & expertise: Multiple site visits and close coordination with the operations team and special projects division ensured precise measurements and a clear execution plan.
  • Custom design elements: To integrate seamlessly into the property and meet safety requirements, PEAK developed custom railings and walkways. These design touches made the elevated structure both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Adaptability to conditions: When wind conditions intensified, the original tenting plan was revised. The Navi-Trac Lite Frame Tent originally proposed was replaced with a more stable structure. This not only enhanced safety but also lowered the tent’s peak, improving sightlines and creating an even more dramatic view from the porch behind the tent.

Results & Client Takeaways

The result was a strikingly unique build that exceeded both client and community expectations. Guests enjoyed a safe, beautiful, and unforgettable event space that showcased the property in a way that would not have been possible without the temporary infrastructure.

The client was thrilled with the final product, praising both the creativity of the solution and the professionalism of the PEAK team. Beyond the event itself, this project became a showcase for what can be accomplished in challenging spaces, demonstrating that with the right vision and expertise, seemingly impossible event sites can be transformed into extraordinary venues.
